Korean Elementary English Education: Curriculum: Changes
Jeong-Ryeol Kim
Korea National University of Education

Korea has undergone exciting changes in English education from the implementation of elementary English education to EPIK (English Program in Korea) to changes of the national curriculum in last several years.  English education has shifted the target English from Anglo-American English to international English and its focus of syllabus from structural to fuctional.  The upcoming 7th national curriculum will add more to the current national curriculum by introducing differentiated learner levels.  The paper will illustrate the differences appeared in the national curriculum and their effects on English textbooks, syllabus and the roles of teachers and learners.  It will also encourage the open learning, often characterized by laying out different study corners in the classroom.
