Editing Manuscripts With Excellence
William A. Schmidt
KAIST, Korea
A major problem for English instructors has been the editing of manuscripts.
Often with short notice, a teacher is given a paper and asked to correct
it quickly for publication. Many concerns with this problem include what
grammar and syntax to correct, what teaching opportunities in writing composition
this might present, which time constraints could be broken, and maybe as
important, who are the important people involved in this paper's publication.
In working towards solving this problem, we will first define our terms.
Then we will took at a questionnaire done on editing, looking at responses
from both first-language English teachers as well as Asian language administrators.
Finally, after reviewing the relevant literature, we will move towards
a solution to this problem, satisfying teachers, students, and host Asian
country. This solution would involve setting standards and parameters of
the best quality in editing.
